Introduction Springfield is a city in Lane County between the the McKenzie and Willamette rivers.
The city has been named because of a home built near a spring by early settler Elias M. Briggs.
The McKenzie River which passes by Springfield along the town's northern margin is one of the state's most important 'wild' rivers. The river is full of stocked and native trout, and is an important part of the local culture, as well as helping to support tourism. Average relative humidity is 74% at 10 a.m. and 60% at 4 p.m. Thunderstorms occur infrequently throughout the year, averaging five annually.
